BR class 4MT 4-6-0 No 75054 arrives at Portmadoc with the up 'Wesh Chieftain'.
Peter Kerslake says "Next to Barmouth in importance on the Cambrian line Portmadoc had a two road brick built locomotive depot which, in its heyday had nine engines allocated there in 1947. Its location so close to dwelling houses must have been a problem especially on washing days and most of its engines were engaged on piloting workings up the grade to Minffordd and through to Penrhyndeudraeth as well as working both freights and passenger rosters westwards to Pwllheli and eastwards to Machynlleth. The depot survived until August 1963 but was demolished shortly after closure."
