Peter Kerslake adds "When originally opened in May 1846 the Broad Gauge line at Teignmouth ran through the 320 yard long Teignmouth East Tunnel running into the approach to Teignmouth station, the tunnel being opened out into today's deep cutting between 1879 and 1893."
