D92 1961-07-09 Wellingborough
As large scale deliveries of the 'Peaks' began from Derby and Crewe the elimination of steam from the Midland main line gathered pace. Their first duties were mainly on express passenger work displacing 'Jubilee's, 'Scots' and 'Britannias'. Built at Crewe in March, No.D92 heads an Up express on 9th July 1961 past Wellingborough North signalbox. Wellingborough Ironworks can be seen in the background, a source of much traffic for the local yards.
