LNER A1 Pacific No 4478 Hermit departs from Nottingham Victoria with the 3.20pm Marylebone to Manchester Central express on August 17, 1939.

This express was unusual in running to Manchester Central not London Road. This was the only regular service to bring a Gresley Pacific or V2 to Manchester Central and then, as far as we are aware, only in 1938/9.
