As well as her many other claims to fame 4472 "Flying Scotsman" was the first of five "A3's" in 1928 to receive Sir Nigel's revolutionary Corridor Tender depicted here in this 1930 's image, sharing the honour with "Royal Lancer" , "Harvester", "Night Hawk" and "Shotover", enabling these five to work non stop between Kings Cross and Edinburgh from the first of May of that year.
Fifteen more such tenders were built upon the introduction of the "A4's", making a grand total of twenty, all of which with their eight wheels were able to hold 5000 gallons of water and 9 tons of coal, weighing 62 and a half tons when so fully loaded, their length being nearly twenty six feet.
