The magnificent arched roof of York Station forms the backdrop to a down departure, probably for Edinburgh on a murky day circa 1925. The motive power is LNER Gresley 'A1' No. 2546 'Donovan', It was built at Doncaster in Aug. 1924, rebuilt from class A1 to class A3 in Jan. 1948 and was withdrawn in Apr. 1963 as BR No. 60047.
