Down express heading north near Westborough signalbox (its up distant signal is just above the locomotive's cab roof) and approaching Claypole. The GNR erected a signal box in the 1870s between Claypole and Hougham stations where the railway ran between the villages of Dry Doddington and Stubton. Instead of naming the signal box after one of those villages, it chose to name the box after Westborough Lodge a little nearer the line.
