2752 1937-05-01 Sandy
Some images have languished in the 'basket case' file probably since the day they were taken. This offending negative had been dropped and received a myriad of tramline surface scratches and other damage. I finally decided it was too fine an image to ignore and after two hours of attention, here is the result. Sandy in Bedfordshire is the May Day 1937 location for a down express speeding north having just passed through Sandy Station. LNER Gresley 'A3' 4-6-2 No. 2752 'Spion Kop', built at Doncaster in April 1929 heads the train. It would be withdrawn in Oct. 1963 as BR No. 60098. I hope you think my efforts to restore the 'moment' were worthwhile...
