LNER class V2 2-6-2 No 60817 waits to leave Kings Cross with the 4.12pm express to Cleethorpes on June 22, 1961.
The first V2s were modified with a Kylchap double chimney (from March 1960) which when the cowls were fitted too in Jan 1961 resulted in performance equivalent to a Pacific. Despite a recommendation to fit all the class only a small number were converted.
