‘Merchant Navy’ No.35004 Cunard White Star departs with an Up express. It has an early pattern 5,000 gallon tender, the first to be built with tubular steel ladders. No.35004 was rebuilt in 1958 and withdrawn in October 1965 following a severe slip near Hook while working a Bournemouth-Waterloo express which resulted in broken and buckled coupling rods.
