Some nice detail at the front end of the Fairburn version of the 2-6-4Ts including the cut-away front platform, guard irons attached to the pony truck and the SC plate below the shedplate indicating that No.42081 was fitted with a self-cleaning smokebox, one of the labour saving devices introduced by HG Ivatt in the early 1940s. Also visible below the bufferbeam is the plate to protect the AWS receiver from damage by the screw coupling.
