This has just left Sanderstead (just south of Croydon) on the Oxted line. A feature of the section just to the south of the station is that the down line (only) was electrified for a short distance to enable the Elmers End - Sanderstead electric shuttle to reverse onto the up road for its return journey. Note the third rail on the down line only.
