GWR Star class 4-6-0 No 4003 Lode Star stored in the stock shed at Swindon on August 25, 1957.
Peter Kerslake says "Following withdrawal in July 1951 from Landore as the oldest 'Star' in service 4003 was reunited with a 3500 gallon tender a type with which it was built in February 1907 in place of the larger 4000 gallon design it ran with in later years. Following withdrawal 4003 spent ten years in Swindon Works Stock Shed before entering the Works for a cosmetic restoration to its early GWR condition, and was placed in the Swindon Railway Museum with the 'elbow' steam pipes that had been fitted in 1949 removed."
