4002 1910 Plymouth Laira
The thoroughbred lines of George Jackson Churchward's 4-cylinder 'Star' class 4-6-0s are displayed to good advantage in this lovely broadside view of 'Evening Star' taken at Plymouth Laira circa 1910. The perpetuation and continuity of 'Star' names had begun in 1838 with a GWR broad gauge class of 2-2-2s and fittingly concluded with BR's final steam locomotive, '9F' class 2-10-0 No. 92220. GWR No. 4002 was built at Swindon in March 1907 and withdrawn in June 1933
