The original station was closed in 1964, but re-opened in 1998 as part of the Robin Hood Line (Nottingham - Worksop). The old station was dismantled in 1981 and rebuilt at Butterley as part of the Midland Railway Centre. The colliery was opened in 1894 and was one of five pits owned by the Shireoaks Colliery Co. Ltd. The mine closed in 1986
