45528 1961-03-04 Lytham St Annes

A Blackpool-Manchester train at Lytham St Annes on 4th March 1961. In charge is rebuilt ‘Patriot’ No 45528 ‘R.E.M.E’ -though the nameplate is obscured by leaking steam. Naming had taken place as recently as October 1959. Why a Willesden locomotive should be working this train is unknown -it seems unlikely that this was part of a regular diagram. Built in 1933 and rebuilt (by LMS) No 45528 was withdrawn in January 1963.
