45503 1955-08-27 Moreton Cutting

A heavy 13-coach express passes Moreton Cutting (Wirral) on 27th August 1955. In charge is ‘Patriot’ 4-6-0 No 45503 ‘The Royal Leicestershire Regiment’. Released to traffic in 1932, this locomotive was nominally a rebuild of withdrawn ‘Claughton’ No 5985, receiving its number. No part of the original engine was made use of again so the rebuild was in fact a brand new locomotive. Renumbering to 5503 took place in 1934 and final withdrawal came in September 1961.
