Ian R Townend says "An intriguing picture. The loco is recorded as under going a HG repair in April/May 1948 immediately following which it received its BR number clearly of the pseudo LMS block style as shown but retaining scroll LMS on the tender. This suggests a repaint wasn't undertaken and beneath all the grime the loco may have retained red livery. Later it was recorded at the same spot in unlined black with BR gill sans numbers"
