5503 1947 near Watford

Patriot 4-6-0 No 5503 passes Bourne End box north of Watford tunnel with a Birmingham New Street to Euston express in 1947. At this time the name was 'The Leicestershire Regiment' the 'Royal' not being added until Nov 1948. Would appear to be still carrying LMS red livery and this would remain until early BR days when it would receive LMS 1946 style lined black with non standard LMS style BR cabside numbers but retaining LMS on tender.
