Newbold on Avon. Parkfield Road Bridge.

Colin Ryder observes "Cabsheet number is in the short-lived 1948 BLOCK style, a simplified version of the LMS 1946 style of numeral.
Tender insignia are LMS.
Footplate valance shows just one thin line near the bottom edge: so the locomotive and tender are still in LMS red.
Cross-reference with LMS Locomotives, vol.1, Essery & Jenkinson, OPC, p.219 confirms that this loco was still in LMS red at the transition to British Railways in January 1948. They assume no later date than 1948.
Book of the Patriot 4-6-0s, Ian Sixsmith, Irlwell Press, 2003, p.56 lists the renumbering to 45520 as w/e 3 July 1948 when the 1948 BLOCK would have been used. Then a heavy general repair 2 Feb to 27 April 1949, by which time transfers of 8" Gill Sans were being used for the cabside numerals. The trees in full foliage suggests to me that this photo was taken in the summer of 1948"
