45528 1950 Brinklow

45528 1950 Brinklow

Rebuilt with a tapered boiler in August 1947, ‘Patriot’ 4-6-0 No.45528 in 1950 on an Up express at Brinklow is in very unkempt LMS black and still with ‘LMS’ on the tender, although it had been renumbered in March 1949. It did not receive its smoke deflectors until July 1952. No.45528 was allocated to Crewe North from March 1950 until February 1955, albeit punctuated by three short vacations at Camden in the intervening years. It was named R.E.M.E. (the abbreviation for the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) in October 1959, apparently as the result of a staff suggestion at Crewe.
