45512 1961-08-15 Polmadie
With friends 73059 45642 90705. Craig explains -The location shown where 45512 and others are, are over the ash pits which were located between the shed entrances and the coaling tower. What happened was tender engines would come out of Central tender first, travel to Polmadie, pass the engine shed itself on the left, continue on to the turntable at the south end of the yard, turn, reverse on the the coaling tower, then having coaled reverse to the ash pits, hence the engines are all facing the same way in the photo. They would then continue on to a shed road for stabling in the shed, or be ready to reverse out of the shed on to the main line if required for it's next turn. It must have been school holidays as I see that indeed it was a Tuesday. Up to the 15th I had visited according to my records, Polmadie 8 times that month, to be followed by more visits on the 19th, 20th and 27th."Lucky lad!
