45503 1961-07-22 Preston Factory Lane

Train 1Z41 is heading south, passing Factory Lane, Preston behind No 45503 ‘The Royal Leicestershire Regiment’ in July 1961. Released to traffic in July 1932, this ’Patriot’ 4-6-0 was a nominal rebuild of withdrawn ‘Claughton’ No 5985, receiving its number. Only the bogie and some small fittings from the original engine were made use of again so the rebuild was in fact a brand new locomotive. Renumbering to 5503 took place in 1934 and final withdrawal came in September 1961.
