A long way from home, (Llandudno Jct, 6G) LMS built ‘Compound’ No 41111 pilots a Black 5 (No 4533X, possibly 45334 of Kingmoor) on a southbound ‘extra’. The Compound is possibly working its way southwards as a pilot to this train having arrived at Carlisle on an unbalanced working. No 41111 survived until May 1958 when it was withdrawn from 6J Holyhead and is seen here with a hybrid LMS tender (new tank on a second hand MR frame) without side beading.
