In 1960 there remained just one active Midland Compound; this was the LMS built No 40907 which was still employed on Sheffield-Derby trains. Here she is returning light engine to home shed Millhouses after one such working on 19th April 1960. It could not last and the final revenue earning trip took place on Sunday 21st August with the 9.05 ‘stopper’ to Derby. It was the end of an era.
