BR 'Class 35' B-B diesel hydraulic No. D7017. Built by Beyer, Peacock Ltd. of Manchester in Jan. 1962 and withdrawn in Mar. 1975. A hundred and one of the 'Class 35s' or 'Hymeks' were built between 1961 and 1964 and withdrawal came swiftly, beginning in 1971 and ending in 1975. Although they were a perfectly good design, the reasoning was that they were "non-standard". For anyone who enjoys seeing huge ammounts of public money wasted, they were truly fulfilling! D7017 leaves Paignton in Devon on a lovely July day in 1966.
