The appearance of the Hymek in both styling and livery owes much to the input of Ted Wilkes, of the consultants Wilkes & Ashmore, who advised the BR designers. D7003 arrived at Swindon on 30th July from Beyer-Peacock's works at Gorton, Manchester and entered traffic on 3rd August 1961, allocated to Bristol Bath Road.
