6734 1938-06-04 Rugby Station

Ex-London & North Western Railway Webb '1P' class 2-4-2 No. 6734. Built at Crewe in May 1895 as L&NWR No. 2267 and withdrawn in March 1946.

A pleasing view inside the train shed at the north end of Rugby in June 1938. Between 1890 and 1897 Crewe built 160 of these long-lived and useful tanks, no less than 43 surviving into BR ownership the last being withdrawn in 1955. The 'motor' or push-pull system had been fitted by the LMS in August 1929, this particular member of the class lasting until March 1946 .
