6639 1938-08-14 Crewe Works

LMS Fowler 'Royal Scot' class 4-6-0 No. 6155 'The Lancer'. Built at Derby in July 1930, rebuilt in 1950 to Stanier specifications and withdrawn in Dec. 1964 as BR No. 46155. Ex-London & North Western Rly. Webb '5ft. 6in' Tank' (LMS '1P') class 2-4-2 Tank No. 6639. Built at Crewe in January 1892 as L&NWR No. 1768 and withdrawn in June 1949 still as LMS No. 6639. The smaller, unshaded and somewhat unattractive cabside and tender insignia do not sit well on 6155 as it sits in Crewe Works behind an older generation of motive power in August 1938.
