Robert Waterman says "This is a down Folkestone or Dover boat train on which, if the date is correct, is the last day of steam working - the electrics took over from the 12th June 1961. I have a little doubt about the date because semaphore signalling is still extant with no apparent signs of colour light MAS, installed as far as Dover Marine via Tonbridge as part of the phase 2 Kent Coast electrification scheme although this scheme was not completed in full (including all the re-signalling) until June 1962. For this year the electrics, and some diesels, worked to the steam schedules - and in the writers experience gained time in handfulls".
