34043 1961-07-15 Bath Green Park shed
Peter Kerslake says "Bath Green Park was really two sheds, dating back to when the two Companies operated the line, the stone built former Midland Railway shed having a sixty foot turntable, coaling facility, water tower and goods shed whilst the former Somerset and Dorset shed had a larger holding area, At busy times engines would invariably need to gain access to both sections when coaling and turning were necessary.
The Bulleid "Pacifics" first worked the Somerset and Dorset following trials in March 1951 when "Sir Trafford Leigh Mallory" underwent evaluation and 34043 "Combe Martin" seen here was, in company with 34044 "Woolacombe" retained by Bournemouth shed until 1964 primarily as "standby" engines in the event of a failure of 34040/41/42, the three designated "Westc ountry" class which remained allocated to Bath Green Park until 1954."
