Taken from the North end of the down platform, the picture is looking across the site of the old signal box. The new box is just out of sight, behind the nearest of the bay roads, to the right of the picture. The cattle dock is just visible beyond the loading gauge. Bridge no.176 carries the Andover Road over the main line to the rear of the last coach. The train is on its way from Waterloo to Bournemouth West. I believe the loco was a regular on Bournemouth and Weymouth services, and have a couple of photos showing it en route. According to my info up siding no.1 (alongside the train) was removed in October 1966 ? by which time, evidence of impending electrification should have been visible. 615 Squadron was withdrawn in April 1966, so looking at the trees and lighting - I would probably date this as March/April, either 1965 or 1966 (probably ?65)
