Peter Kerslake writes: We were going to the Lyme Regis branch this day, Whitsun Monday 31st May 1956 and had called in at Exmouth Junction shed on our way, making something of a "Southern Day Out", especially as we had come up to Exeter from Plymouth via the Southern line across North Dartmoor and Okehampton. I have crossed under the main line to capture 34058 "Sir Frederick Pile" coming up from Exeter Central with a Waterloo bound express, with its massive coaling plant visible on the left.
