It was fresh from a general repair at Doncaster in September 1958 where even the worksplate was polished (no over-painting of pre-grouping plates at The Plant unlike LMR works). The Lincoln allocated J6 had worked down over the GNGE Joint line as far as Spalding, then over to New England as seen here. The J6s worked extensively on all types of traffic including express passenger on the MGN until displaced by the Ivatt Flying Pigs, after which they were re-allocated to such locations as Boston and Colwick
