Peter Kerslake adds "A splendid picture of the last of her class as EM2 numbered 27006 is recorded at Manchester London Road, the station's dark and cavernous depths contrasting with the sunlit scene outside the massive station roof.
With a total of twenty seven of the class having been placed on order in July of 1949 those in authority were obliged to limit the actual number constructed to just seven, as projected amounts of traffic taking the Woodhead had been overestimated .
27006 waa named "Pandora" in May 1959, and this fine image shows to advantage the massive six wheeled bogie design and the larger dimensions of the class which were nine feet longer than the EM1's. "
