27002 1956-05-12 Penistone

Well polished EM2 27002 accelerates from the speed restriction through Penistone with the Ian Allan 'Pennine Pullman' from Marylebone on May 12, 1956.

Peter kerslake adds "The renowned Woodhead line cameraman Kenneth Field has caught the third of the class of just seven EM2's numbered 27002 working this 1956 Special through Penistone, the locomotive having been well turned out for this special duty.
Upon withdrawal in 1968 this locomotive, together with six of her sisters, was sold to the Netherlands Railways network, following in the tracks of 26000 some twenty years earlier, the six locomotives enjoying a second spell in duty in Holland lasting until June of 1986 with the original 27000 and 27001 thereafter being saved for preservation, one in this Country and one in Holland".
