D1013 1963-04-20 Shrewsbury

Class 52 No D1013 Western Ranger arrives at Shrewsbury with the 8.30am from Paddington on 20 April 1963.

Peter Kerslake says "D1013 "Western Ranger" seen here survived in service until 1977 when, in company with D1023 "Western Fusilier" they worked a double headed rail tour.
By the beginning of that year just seven "Westerns" had remained in service, that niumber being reduced to just four, all of which were condemned in February 1977 but D1013 and D1023 together with five others were spared the cutters' torches and survived for preservation.
Shrewsbury's massive and distinctive signal box stands high above the main line curving sharply away to the left to Wolverhampton and Birmingham whilst the line down to the Cambrian system is on the extreme right".
