Standing on this bridge at Goose Hill Junction, just west of Normanton offered a good deal of enjoyment to railway enthusiasts in the steam and early diesel era. On the left are the interchange sidings for coal from St. Johns colliery. BR Riddles '9F' 2-10-0 No. 92006 heads a lengthy westbound freight along the former L&Y Calder Valley route and the ex-Midland Railway lines from Leeds to St. Pancras are seen on the right. So what remains in the 2020s? The sidings long redundant have recently been lifted and the site is used for track panel storage. The Midland lines are long since closed and the area is now just a 'jungle' of unchecked tree growth. Only the L&Y route now remains and is still busy with east-west passenger traffic with occasional freight. 92006 was built at Crewe in February 1954 and withdrawn in April 1967.
