92233 1967-09-9 Warrington Acton Grange
Peter Kerslake says "Standard "9F" 92233 shows off her impressive lines passing the camerman here at Warrington in September of 1967 at the head of a freight with her fireman at his cabside window with his driver also in the picture.
During 1962 this engine was one of the "9F's" which saw service on the Somerset and Dorset line which was the final year of such workings across the Mendips from Bath down to the South Coast.
These Standards had been drafted to the Somerset and Dorset following trials with sister engine 92204 begun in late March of 1960 and at a time when long distance holiday passenger traffic was very much on the increase , especially on Summer Saturdays in an effort to reduce Double Heading and to ease the tasks of the eleven Fowler "7F" locomotives such a familiar sight on the "S & D" in past years.
92233 and her sisters were deployed on the Somerset and Dorset for a year or so mainly on express passenger rosters and capable of working single handed except on Summer Saturdays when Double Heading was still found to be necessary."
