BR Riddles 'Franco-Crosti 9F' class 2-10-0 No. 92021. Built at Crewe in March 1955, converted to conventional operation in 1960 and withdrawn in Nov. 1967.

The chequered history of experimental modifications to steam locomotives came to an ignominious end with 92020-9. Irrespective of any potential or perceived benefits of economy, the operating conditions inflicted on their crews were both forseeable and avoidable. Perhaps only Bulleid's 'Leader' class was more eligible for the "what on earth were they thinking" category. Just my opinion! Anyhow, here's 92021 awaiting the fitting of the side exhaust cowl and other final touches at Crewe Works in February 1955.
