92234 1959-09-12 Newport
In 1959 train reporting number 328 was the 09.05 SO Swansea- Kingswear. A fine shot here and one for the records as 92234, one of the final batch of the Standard 9F design built at Crewe from May to December of 1958 finds itself elevated to a long distance express passenger working rather than one of its more customary freight duties. It was certainly not unusual for a 9F to be pressed into service on a passenger duty, as they were capable and strong engines, and on Summer Saturdays in the late 'fifties one might sometimes appear on a duty working between Paddington and the West Country , but this one is running down to Kingswear from Wales. Will it work right through to Newton Abbot or Kingswear, or will it hand over to a fresh engine at Bristol , I wonder ?
