92098 1964-08-09 Crewe South MPD
Many of BR's Riddles 'Standard 9F' class 2-10-0s had tragically short lives because of the headlong rush to dieselise and a lack of joined up thinking. This resulted in the withdrawal of locomotives to meet a 'plan' and not at a time when they actually needed significant expenditure. Had that occurred, it would have markedly improved their cost-effectiveness. 92098 was just such a victim of this flawed thinking and had just ten years of service. It was built at Crewe in July 1956 and was prematurely withdrawn in July 1966.
