92247 92213 1965-09-16 Gloucester Central

92213 having taken on water sets off as 92247 passes non-stop with ballast empties bound for Chepstow. The final months of the last year of steam in the Gloucester area but it was still possible to record on film such sights as this at Gloucester Central. Until Severn Tunnel Junction closed to steam at the end of 1965 freights operating to and from South Wales through Gloucester, mainly carrying Iron Ore ( as seen here by 92213's wagons ) steel and coal were worked by a variety of Western Region and Midland Region classes , paticularly Standard 9F 's . Horton Road shed is on the left, now servicing Midland Region locomotives as well as Western classes since Barnwood shed's earlier closure. 92213 has taken water from the column seen here and is just restarting, and 92247 will probably have a similar Top Up at the water column at the farmost and South Wales end of the station.
