92128 1965-06-19 Gloucester Central

92128 heading for Wales at 3.50pm on Saturday 19th June 1965. It had been delayed waiting for a fresh crew to take the engine forward. Everyone seems to have gone home except me , here at Gloucester Central on 19th. June , 1965 , with not a soul in sight ! My notes say that the fresh footplate crew were presumably still over on Horton Road shed , so perhaps that's why a rather work stained 92128 is being held here with what looks like loaded Iron Ore Tippler wagons heading down into South Wales. Note the lime deposits on the boiler of 92128 , probably from a leaking regulator valve visible on the boiler side , or alternatively from the safety valves , but it looks more like the former. These were destined to be the last months for such steam workings through Gloucester as once Severn Tunnel Junction closed to steam that brought about the final curtain call for such sights as this.
