92237 1963 St Andrews Junction Birmingham

9F 2-10-0 No.92237, viewed from the signal box at St Andrews Junction, with a train of twenty empty Esso tankers setting off for the Fawley oil terminal at Southampton; the four barrier vehicles are all vans and include a GWR fruit van. No.92237 has a painted shed code which is not quite discernible but ends in A; it was allocated to Cardiff Canton, which became 88A in January 1961, from November 1958 until September 1962 and the likely date of this picture is early 1961 given the painted code. Southern Region BRCW Type 3 diesels began working on the Fawley-Bromford Bridge trains in March 1963 and by June it was reported that all were diesel hauled; the locomotives were stabled overnight at Saltley.
