92220 1965 Cardiff East Dock
Note the accident damage. This was taken between March & September 1965 following the collision with another locomotive at Cardiff East Dock, it had been withdrawn in March 1965. It was physically moved to Severn Tunnel Junction (not allocated) on its way to scrapping, from where it was saved. It was photographed at STJ in September 1965. An extremely interesting and rare photograph of Evening Star depicting accident damage and I wonder whether the collision responsible for this happened before the locomotive was condemned which would doubtless have prompted those in authority to end its days , or whether it happened after withdrawal , but it's a good picture anyway . Following withdrawal 92220 was overhauled at Crewe in 1967 and later stored for a while before working on the Keighley and Worth Heritage line for two years from the summer of 1973 until May of 1975 . During the following years Evening Star ha worked a number of Enthusiasts ' Specials on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway , on the Settle and Carlisle and on the Western Region as well , and is currently at York Railway Museum for all to see and enjoy .
