92183 1961-05-27 Welwyn Garden City

Standard 9F number 92183 shown here on a fast fitted freight made up of empty fish vans was , apart from 92000 herself , the first of her class to have a double chimney fitted from being newly built , following successful tests conducted with sister engine 92178 on the Western Region main line between Reading and Stoke Gifford yards , north of Bristol, in early 1958 . All newly built members of the class from 92183 to 92249 , the last to be built , were accordingly constructed as double chimney versions , although few of the original single chimney versions were converted during their working lives. 92183 's fireman has spotted our cameraman , his engine having an impressive load of fitted vans behind the tender here on the East Coast main line into London
