The ninth of the initial batch of Standard 9F 's 92008 should, along with the other nine, have gone as planned to the Western Region from new in 1954 following construction at Crewe but in the event, and in company with 92009, it was diverted to the London Midland Region and they were both allocated to Wellingborough for the coal train workings covered by that Depot. They would soon replace the Beyer Garratts on those trains.
