Warrington 9F 92048 is heading for Crewe passing another Stanier Class 5 on a Class E partially fitted express freight. The abandoned trackbed to the left is part of the old formation of the West Coast main line before the Manchester Ship Canal was built. The new Acton Grange bridges were required to give clearance for shipping so the opportunity for a gentle incline (1 in 135) along an adjusted formation was taken. There was a similar incline from the north.
