A very rare picture of a Crosti engine with passenger stock, as No.92029 works a train of empty coaches near Derby in the mid-1950s. Note the exhaust steam being emitted from the chimney on the right hand side of the boiler; the smoke deflector was added in February 1956 in an attempt to keep the smoke away from the cab. No.92029 went into store at Wellingborough in June 1959 and was converted at Crewe Works between June and August 1960. According to the 9F ' Bible ' ( RCTS B.R Standard Steam Locomotives Volume 4 - The 9F 2-10-0 Class by Walford & Harrison 2006 ), there are no known observations of 92029 undertaking this type of work. It is a pity that the precise date is not known, but what a wonderful photograph which illustrates perfectly the versatility of these magnificent locomotives.

David Cliff says "There is photographic evidence that a Crosti worked a special test train of about 18 Coaches to Scotland over Shap and Beattock. Somewhere on the internet there is a broadside picture of this special taken from a moving car, that featured in a newspaper at the time".
